Overview
Azure Backup is a cloud-based service that provides simple, secure, and cost-effective solutions to back up your data and recover it from the Microsoft Azure cloud. It supports a wide range of workloads, including Azure VMs, on-premises servers, SQL databases, and more.
Core Functionality
Backup Configuration
- Recovery Services Vault: Store your backups in a Recovery Services vault and set up backup policies to define the frequency and retention of backups.
- On-Premises Backup: Use the Microsoft Azure Recovery Services (MARS) agent to back up files, folders, and system state from on-premises servers. For larger environments, use Azure Backup Server (MABS) or System Center Data Protection Manager (DPM).
- Azure VM Backup: Enable backup for Azure VMs using the built-in backup extension. Back up entire VMs or specific files and folders, and configure backup policies to automate the process.
- SQL Server Backup: Use Azure Backup to back up SQL Server databases running on Azure VMs, providing a reliable and secure solution for database protection.
Monitoring and Management
- Monitoring: Use the built-in monitoring and alerting capabilities in the Recovery Services vault to track the status of your backups.
- Integration: Integrate with Azure Monitor for advanced monitoring and reporting.
